How to Find Your Appliance Model Number (Every Brand)

Why Your Model Number Matters

The model number is not the same as the brand name or the product name. It is a specific alphanumeric code — typically 8-15 characters — that identifies the exact configuration of your appliance including its components, parts compatibility, and manufacturing specifications.

When you enter your model number into ApplianceMath, it pulls your appliance's current replacement MSRP, its category-specific expected lifespan, known failure patterns for that exact model, and compatible repair parts and their current pricing. A category average gives you a ballpark. Your model number gives you the answer.

Refrigerators and Freezers

The model number label on most refrigerators is located inside the fresh food compartment — specifically on the left interior wall or the ceiling of the compartment near the front. Open the refrigerator door and look along the inside frame.

On French door models, check both the left and right door frame interior. On side-by-side models, check the left compartment interior wall. On bottom freezer models, check the fresh food compartment interior ceiling.

If you cannot find it inside: Check the rear exterior of the unit near the compressor housing, or look under the unit along the bottom front kickplate.

Brand-specific notes: Samsung — interior left wall, also printed on a silver sticker behind the crisper drawers. LG — interior ceiling label, also accessible via the LG ThinQ app if registered. Whirlpool/Maytag — interior left wall or door frame. GE/GE Profile — interior left wall or top of fresh food compartment. Frigidaire — interior left wall.

Washing Machines

Front-load washers: Open the door and look along the interior door frame — the label is typically on the left or top edge of the door opening, visible when the door is open.

Top-load washers: Lift the lid and look along the top rear edge of the drum opening. On some models the label is on the back panel of the machine itself.

Brand-specific notes: LG front-load — door frame interior, top left. Samsung front-load — door frame interior, visible when door is open. Whirlpool top-load — under the lid, rear right corner. GE top-load — under the lid, front center panel. Maytag — under the lid or on the rear exterior panel.

Clothes Dryers

Open the dryer door and look along the interior door frame — the same location as front-load washers. The label is typically on the left side of the door opening. On gas dryers, a second label with gas specifications is often near the bottom rear of the unit. The model number label is still inside the door frame.

Dishwashers

Open the dishwasher door fully. The model number label is on the top edge of the door — the part that faces up when the door is open flat. Look along the left, center, or right of that top edge. On some older models the label is on the left interior side wall of the tub.

Brand-specific notes: Bosch — top edge of door interior, left side. Whirlpool — top edge of door interior, center. KitchenAid — top edge of door interior, left side. Samsung — left interior side wall or top door edge. GE — top edge of door interior.

Ranges, Ovens, and Stoves

The model number on freestanding ranges is typically found by pulling out the storage drawer at the bottom of the unit. Look on the front face of the frame behind where the drawer sits — the label is usually on the left or right side. On slide-in ranges, look along the left interior side wall of the oven cavity, visible when the oven door is open. On wall ovens, open the oven door and look along the left or right interior frame.

Microwaves

Over-the-range microwaves: Open the microwave door and look along the interior door frame — left side or top edge. Built-in microwaves: Same location — interior door frame. If the unit is built into cabinetry, the interior door frame label is the most accessible location.

Range Hoods

The model number on range hoods is typically located inside the filter housing — remove the grease filter and look at the interior surface of the hood cavity. On some models it is on the rear exterior panel.

What to Do Once You Have Your Model Number
